Dramatic security footage shows the moment three masked robbers crash a truck into the front of a Florida jewelry store and then leave empty-handed.
A loud bang and the sound of breaking glass can be heard as the flatbed truck backs through the main entrance of International Jewelers Exchange in Aventura, destroying doors and display cases, video obtained by WPLG shows.
According to the video, three men get out of the car and can be heard yelling at each other in Spanish as they climb over the rubble. They do not appear to be going after the jewelry, but rather enter another room at the side of the store.
Just three minutes after the robbery, the thieves fled in the car without stealing anything, leaving the mess behind. They later abandoned the truck, police said.
Police said they believe they left so quickly because of authorities’ quick response time, or perhaps because of the store’s state-of-the-art security system.
“Alarms were raised, police were notified and they responded as quickly as possible,” Tony Austin, head of security for International Jewelers Exchange, told WPLG.

Austin said the robbers may have been trying to get to a safe inside the store.
“Three people wearing balaclavas backed up the vehicle to put it away, ran frantically and apparently couldn’t make it. They tried to hook the equipment, but it didn’t work and they ran away, abandoned the crane,” he said. “This place is not to be messed with. Security is tight, like Fort Knox,” Austin said.
Some of the store’s vendors, many of whom are Jewish, were initially concerned that the attack may have been targeted in light of Israel’s war with Hamas, however, police said there were no indications that that was the case.
The motive was simply robbery, police said.
