Who ran over a pigeon in Japan?
According to the Asahi Shimbun, Tokyo police detained Atsushi Ozawa, 50, after identifying him from surveillance footage of the November incident.
What happened at the scene?
According to the report, the veterinarian declared the pigeon hit in the incident dead, attributing the cause of death to severe shock. According to the Asahi Shimbun, a bystander observed Ozawa rev his engine at a green light and then drive toward the pigeons at a speed of approximately 37 miles per hour.
Why did the police come to the scene?
According to the source, the passerby called emergency services. According to national broadcaster NHK, Tokyo police decided that the bird was intentionally euthanized.

According to the station, Ozawa defiantly told investigators: “The roads belong to humans and it is pigeons who must avoid them.”
Ozawa is now suspected of using “his car to kill a common pigeon, which is not a game animal,” according to a police official, according to Agence France-Presse.
How does man break the rules?
Ozawa would have violated Japan’s Wildlife Protection, Control and Management Law if convicted. According to the Asahi Shimbun, police stated that Ozawa is a professional driver and should therefore be held to a higher ethical standard on the road.
