Emma Ruscoe, a 55-year-old woman from Solihull, West Midlands, England, suspected her husband Simon of having an affair after noticing minor changes in his behaviour.

According to the Daily Mail, Emma became concerned when Simon, 58, began withdrawing from his social groups and showing signs of emotional distancing.

Towards the end of 2015, the family began to notice these changes. Emma noticed that Simon was making wrong turns even in familiar areas. Emma noticed further changes in her husband’s behavior during a family vacation in Kefalonia, Greece, in August 2016.

Simon grew more and more irritable, and the conversations they had had faded from his mind. Emma decided to take him to her general practitioner, who recommended a memory clinic because she was concerned about his health. However, it proved difficult to get Simon to the appointment.

Emma returned to the doctors in March 2018 and they were again referred to a memory clinic. They received a letter in June of that year confirming that Simon did not have dementia.

He expressed his dissatisfaction, recalling that they did not do any examination and that they only spoke with a psychologist who attributed Simón’s symptoms to increased stress.

Emma was not intimidated by the initial diagnosis and proceeded in her search for answers. The couple went to more visits where Simón was evaluated. They were finally diagnosed with early-onset dementia in January 2020.

Emma was relieved after the discovery.

Emma expressed relief after hearing the confirmation. She had a feeling something was wrong, but her concerns hadn’t been addressed for too long.

Simon’s abilities have declined from being able to mow a lawn just 12 months earlier to needing help with daily tasks, indicating the progression of the disease.

Emma described the emotional toll of watching her spouse deteriorate after 31 years of marriage. The family is currently looking for a personal assistant who can offer relief while allowing Simon some independence.
