Ukrainian defense forces shot down 30 Russian drones: reports

Ukraine’s air defense forces reportedly shot down 30 drones in 11 regions of the country on Saturday.

The Ukrainian Air Force said the Russian military launched Iranian-made Shahed drones from three different directions in Russia, targeting different regions in the center, north and south of the country.

In a statement on the Telegram messaging app, Ukrainian forces said their fighter jets, anti-aircraft missile units and mobile groups of drone hunters repelled Russian drone attacks.

No victims were reported.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said anti-aircraft units went into action as groups of Russian drones flew around the outskirts of the capital and attacked areas near the city center.

Anti-aircraft activity was intense, Klitschko said, in the Darnytskyi district on the east bank of the Dnipro River and the explosions also hit the historic Podil on the opposite bank.

Nighttime air alerts lasted for more than five hours in some regions of the country.

The Kremlin denied targeting Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and reported a series of Ukrainian drone attacks on its territory on Friday.

Russian anti-aircraft units destroyed 32 Ukrainian drones over the Crimean peninsula, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Telegram on Friday.
