The painful moment quickly went viral on social media and the presenter, Maryam Moshiri, publicly apologized.
Generally, these types of situations do not happen on news programs of the stature of the BBC; However, the unusual thing happened when journalist Maryam Moshiri did not realize that the news program was already live.
Although it was only for a few seconds, on the screen millions clearly saw how Moshiri made the bad sign for a few seconds, before seriously starting the newscast, as is customary.
Some claimed that it had been an angry gesture, but in her public apology, the British clarified that beyond an annoyance, it was an internal joke she had with the staff and her colleagues behind the cameras.
Without realizing that he had already started, Moshiri quickly regained his composure and gave the initial greeting.
“Hello everyone! Yesterday, just before reaching the hour mark, I was joking a little with the team in the studio,” the journalist’s public apology began through her X account.
“I was simulating a countdown while the director counted me down from 10 to 0… including the fingers to show the number. So from 10 fingers raised to one. When we got to 1, I twisted the finger as a joke and “I didn’t realize this would be caught on camera,” he continued to explain.
After the tweet he concluded with apologies, mentioning that it was not his intention to offend anyone in the audience.
