US Man Reserves Three Seats For 63 Kg Dog To Accompany Him On Flight

Passengers on a US aircraft were “gobsmacked” after seeing a horse-side dog take many seats alongside its owner. According to the New York Post, the five-year-old Great Dane dog is a support dog for 27-year-old Gabriel Bogner. Here’s what we know.

The dog, named Darwin, weighed roughly 140 pounds (63 kg) and needed three seats to fit comfortably on a journey from Los Angeles to New York. A TikTok video of the huge dog’s airline flight went viral garnering millions of views.

Darwin is reportedly seen reclining comfortably on her seats, curiously glancing around, and occasionally napping.

Gabriel complimented American Airlines for allowing him to accommodate his dog in a simple process while sharing the video on TikTok. “Who says Great Danes don’t make good aeroplane dogs?” But kudos to American Airlines for making our transfer to Brooklyn a breeze! “(Yes, I bought three plane seats for us),” he apparently captioned the video.

Users on social media were ecstatic to see Darwin’s flight diaries and apparently applauded him, writing, “It’s a Dane on a plane.”

Gabriel later shared his fight with Crohn’s disease and how Darwin supports him as a service dog in a follow-up explanation video. The owner revealed that he considered various options before forcing her to fly on the plane with him.

Whether it was driving her or allowing someone else to drive her, nothing came of it. Darwin happened to be a huge dog to fit into a crate when trying to get her into a crate underneath a plane.

“So I just researched pet-friendly airlines and started calling around, and I called American Airlines and just talked to the person, and I found out that if you have a service dog, no matter their size, they’re technically allowed on the plane,” he explained.

Gabriel inquired whether her 140-pound weight would be an issue, but they only encouraged him to purchase three seats for the pair. Gabriel is said to have filled out a form with the Department of Transportation and, once accepted, obtained an official ID number for the dog.

Gabriel told the South West News, “People were absolutely gobsmacked and shocked, but everyone was so excited to see her.”

He said he has never seen so many people smile at them at the airport. He stressed that he had no problems with fellow passengers or the crew during the trip, but some seemed to jest about the dog getting an upgrade with numerous seats for a pleasant ride.
