It’s true that lazy people often get a bad reputation. Teachers often use the phrase “They’re bright, but they use their gifts” at parent-teacher conferences. But usually this cliché doesn’t help the student much, as it basically says that he is not trying hard enough, which may sound like he is being called lazy.
However, one study suggested that their lack of activity could actually be a sign of how intelligent they are.

Who was behind the study?
The research, which is now going viral, was conducted by Florida Gulf Coast University.
What did the study suggest?
Research found that people with higher IQs tend to be less physically active compared to those with lower IQs. Intelligent people often gravitate toward mentally interesting activities and place less priority on exercise.
Why are lazy people more intelligent?
The study’s hypothesis suggests that intelligent people are less prone to boredom, leading them to spend more time on intellectually stimulating activities. However, activities such as reading or solving crossword puzzles, while beneficial for the mind, do not contribute much to physical activity.
On the other hand, active individuals seek out outside activities to avoid boredom, as they are more likely to get bored easily and need continuous stimulation.
How does the study was realized?
In the study, researchers divided participants into two groups based on a cognition test: thinkers and non-thinkers. Tracking their activity using fitness devices for a week revealed that the “thinkers” were less active on weekdays and showed little variation in activity levels on weekends.
To help smarter, probably lazier people, the British Psychological Society said: “Ultimately, an important factor that can help more thoughtful people combat their lower average levels of activity is awareness.”
