Virginia mother Lauren Cook and three children under 8 missing for more than a week in ‘complex’ case

A Virginia mother and her three young children have been missing for more than a week, but frantic search efforts only began after the crucial first few days, police said.

Lauren Cook, 30, and her children (7-year-old Benjamin, 5-year-old Hannah, and 2-year-old Elijah) disappeared without a trace on Sept. 5 after failing to show up at a family member’s home, according to police. of Franklin County.

His loved ones spent several days trying unsuccessfully to contact Cook before finally turning to police for help.

Officers are still trying to piece together the case and are unsure if the four could be in danger.

Cook is married and lives with her husband, who shares custody of the three children, police said.

“A lot of times you see these situations where a parent loses custody, takes the kids and runs away. “This does not appear to be the case,” said Sgt. Megan Huston, public information officer for the department, told The Post.

Police are unsure if the couple could be involved in some type of dispute that could have prompted Cook to flee.

There are also no records in Franklin County of domestic violence between the couple or 911 calls to their home.

“But they’re not originally from here, so I can’t say whether or not something has happened elsewhere, I’m not privy to that information,” Huston said.

“It’s a complex situation about which we have limited details.”
