Surveillance video of Jacksonville shooting

Three people were killed in a mass shooting on August 26 in Jacksonville, believed to be a hate crime. CNN reports that Ryan Christopher Palmete, the culprit, is accused of killing black victims at the Dollar Store General before shooting himself. The authorities have since released CCTV video of the incident. In the incidental video, a person described as Ryan Christopher Palmerer is seen entering the Dollar Store General while brandishing a weapon. Palmer, who is seen wearing a baseball cap and blue T-shirt, is seen pointing the gun at a victim who is off-screen.

According to CNN, Ryan Christopher Palmerer, 21, has no prior convictions for any crime. However, a police source said that he had been part of a domestic violence incident in 2016. To determine if he had mental health problems, he too had been evaluated. Investigators also found multiple racist manifestos at Palmerer’s home, which he allegedly wrote for use in posthumous media coverage. The legally acquired gun in the incident reportedly had a swastika on it, as recorded by PBS. According to Reuters, Palmer apparently tried to get into the black Edward Waters University before the shooting.

Palmer allegedly visited a Dollar Store General in Newton, a predominantly black neighborhood in Jacksonville, at 1 p.m. after being unable to gain access to the location. The suspect was allegedly wearing a bulletproof vest and mask. All three victims were killed when he started shooting. The suspect sent a text message to his father at around 1:14 pm, telling her to come to the suspect’s room in his house. The suspect pointed his father in the direction of his laptop, which was said to include a message to himself describing his racist views. The alleged shooter later committed suicide. According to CBS, no other people were shot or injured at the event. Jacksonville Councilman Ju’Coby Pittman spoke out against the killings in an interview with WJAX-TV.
