On June 30, Melburnian Rajiv Jayarajah, 43, suffered a seizure inside a villa in Nusa Dua before collapsing and hitting his head on the ground in front of his young son. He was soon taken to a nearby hospital where he underwent urgent brain surgery before sustaining serious injuries and slipping into an induced coma. Family members immediately created a GoFundMe page in an effort to raise money for the ailing father’s emergency medical return to Victoria. After raising more than $200,000, they took him back to his home country.

But Mr. Jayarajah’s family has confirmed that he passed away at a hospital on Sunday. On GoFundMe, close friend Andrew Macqueen wrote: “After returning to Melbourne by air ambulance, the Alfred Intensive Care Unit team ran a series of tests on Raj and informed us that nothing could be done to save him.” Since then, Raj’s family and close friends in Melbourne have gathered at his bedside to say a final farewell to him. The loss of Mr. Jayarajah, who had an “incredible impact” on those around him, has “torn apart” the family, which also includes his wife Emma and his eight-year-old son Ari.
