WhatsApp audio and voice notes will soon be able to be sent via text message

Listen to the podcast:

WhatsApp continues to improve its service by introducing new useful features for its users. It has already updated its status feature and expanded the number of photos that can be transmitted at once to more than 100.

However, the most recent advancement is the ability to transcribe voice memos into text, and we are eagerly awaiting its arrival.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the creation of this new feature is currently underway and it will soon be available in beta form. Some of our rivals already provide this functionality, though it may be restricted to their paid subscription tiers only.

Instead of relying on existing apps for transcription, the team behind WhatsApp is working to invent their own solution. There were rumors that WhatsApp was testing the feature on iOS devices in the month of September 2021. Also, Apple services are used for the transcription process instead of Facebook or Meta.

Despite this, development of the feature was put on hold indefinitely for reasons that are now unknown. This happens quite often. Testing procedures don’t always go smoothly, resulting in a significant amount of preliminary functionality being left out of the final version of the product.

The development of voice memo transcription is already available in the latest beta version of WhatsApp on iOS, which is version 23.3.0.73. The screen that serves as an introduction to the new feature will provide an explanation of the circumstances in which the transcript will not be available. These circumstances include situations where the words being spoken are not recognized or appear in a language other than one of those pre-installed in the application.

It is critical to note that the transcripts will be created on the device, which means they will be stored locally.

Both WhatsApp and Apple will not be able to access it. In order for users to access the feature, they will be required to download the appropriate language packs. According to WABetaInfo, this feature may only be accessible on newer versions of the iOS operating system.

In the meantime, we’ll have to wait until the general release of the feature, which is scheduled to happen very soon. As usual, it will initially be accessible via the public beta and if all goes as planned, it will then move to the stable version.
