Jake Drummond, 33, reportedly used cocaine and smoked up to 15 cannabis joints every day. Weeks before Jacob Lennon passed away in August 2019, the horrific abuse began. According to testimony presented at the couple’s trial in March at the Old Bailey, Drummond is accused of causing a wide variety of injuries to Jacob’s face, body and genitals three weeks before his death. Drummond fatally punched and shook the boy on August 27, 2019, leaving his face so bruised and swollen that onlookers said Jacob looked like a “panda.”
Jake Drummond’s previous convictions included drug possession, choking his mother and shoving an ex-girlfriend against a wall. In the publicly broadcast sentence at the Old Bailey, Drummond of Roehampton was given a life sentence with a minimum term of 32 years for Jacob’s murder and six consecutive years for battery. Lennon received a concurrent six-year sentence on the cruelty charge, to which she had pleaded guilty, and a ten-year sentence for causing or allowing Jacob’s death. Wayne Jolley, Scotland Yard’s chief detective inspector, said it was the most tragic case he had faced in his three-decade career. He went on to say that he had been “heartbreaking and emotional” for all parties. Jolley said the 15-month-old baby had suffered some truly horrifying and brutal injuries.
At the time of his death, little Jacob had more than 20 wounds on his little body. One of his injuries, according to Jolley, was to his genitals. Drummond abused Jacob over a period of three weeks despite the fact that he had a major head injury that ultimately led to his death.
