Last Tuesday, November 21, it was announced that Mexican actress Melissa Barrera was left out of the Scream 7 film after publishing on her social networks that the Israeli offensive in Gaza is “a genocide and ethnic cleansing“.
Barrera was in charge of giving life to Sam Carpenter in the last two installments, but after making comments in favor of Palestine, the native of Mexico is left out of this seventh installment.
“Gaza is being treated like a concentration camp. Cornering everyone, with nowhere to go, without electricity or water… People have learned nothing from our stories. And just like our stories, people continue to silently watch it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE AND ETHNIC CLEANSING“wrote the actress on her Instagram account.
The Spyglass production company in charge of the popular franchise, admonished Melissa Barrera in a statement after her statements: “We have zero tolerance for anti-Semitism or hate speech in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion, or anything that flagrantly crosses the line of hate speech.“.

Who is Melissa Barrera?
Melissa Barrera was born on July 4, 1990 in Monterrey, Mexico and studied at the American School Foundation of Monterrey.
When she was 21 years old, in 2011, she was selected as a participant in the ninth generation of the TV Azteca reality show, ‘La Academia’. After a 12-week stay on the show, she was eliminated in position 13.
After that experience she decided to leave her career as a singer to continue as an actress. In 2012 she debuted in the soap opera ‘La mujer de Judas’, on the TV Azteca screen.
Subsequently, she participated in the third season of the successful series ‘Club de Cuervos’, where she played Isabel Cantú, Chava Iglesias’ partner and owner of the soccer team.
