He told the agents that he had planned an attack on the White House for six months, as part of an attempt to “seize power.” When asked how he would seize power, Kandula replied that he would “kill the president if that’s what I have to do and hurt anyone who gets in my way,” prosecutors say. He allegedly also told Secret Service agents that he hoped to further his plans to rule the US, which he had written in a notebook.

Kandula told officers the flag he presented at the scene was a swastika he had purchased online because “the Nazis have a great history,” the affidavit says. She allegedly added that he admired the Nazis because of their “authoritarian nature, eugenics and their unique world order” and said that he admired “Hitler because he was a strong leader.” According to the affidavit, he claimed to have flown from St. Louis to DC on a one-way airline ticket. Upon his arrival, he allegedly rented the U-haul at a location near the airport and drove directly to the White House. He allegedly stated that he knew the chances of his arrest were great, but that he wanted to draw the attention of agencies like the Secret Service.
