Kandula told officers the flag he presented at the scene was a swastika he had purchased online because “the Nazis have a great history,” the affidavit says. She allegedly added that he admired the Nazis because of their “authoritarian nature, eugenics and their unique world order” and said that he admired “Hitler because he was a strong leader.” According to the affidavit, he claimed to have flown from St. Louis to DC on a one-way airline ticket. Upon his arrival, he allegedly rented the U-haul at a location near the airport and drove directly to the White House. He allegedly stated that he knew the chances of his arrest were great, but that he wanted to draw the attention of agencies like the Secret Service.
