What was the cause of Kato Lubwama’s death?
Kato Lubwama, a former member of parliament, has left. He was a well-known Ugandan comedian, actor, musician, and businessman who represented Rubaga South in the House of Representatives from 2016 to 2021. Early on June 7, 2023, Lubwama passed away after a heart attack at Stana Medical Center in Bunamwaya. He underwent surgery in Turkey in March 2022 due to a history of heart problems. Lubwama, who was born in Kampala, Uganda, on August 16, 1970, attended Makerere University to study music, dance, and drama. In addition to serving as director of the Royal Theatre, Diamonds Ensemble, Image Africa and B24 TV, he rose to fame as an entertainer and radio host.
He also released a number of songs, such as “Tulye”, “Tetunakuta”, “Bank Yebyama”, “Abantu Bazibu”, “Akanaku”, and “Dimitinya”. Six children were born to Lubwama and Ann Namuwonge. Usually, he attended St. Peter Nsambya Church as a devout Catholic. He was well known for making controversial statements on politics and social issues, including the time he said that he went to parliament more for food than work. Throughout his political career, Lubwama’s credentials in the classroom were criticized. A voter alleged that he fraudulently entered Makerere University and was admitted to earn a diploma in music and theater despite being a minor.
Lubwama was defeated in the 2021 general election by Aloysius Mukasa of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party. To restore the party’s luster, he remained a devoted member of the Democratic Party (DP) and founded an organization called Solida. Abby Mukiibi and Patrick Mujjuka, two other comedians, were good friends with Lubwama. On the CBS FM show Kalisoliso, they worked together. At the Bunamwaya Stana Medical Center, where Kato Lubwama frequently went for checkups, he passed away. He had a history of heart problems, so his death was attributed to a heart attack, a condition he had been struggling with.
