Resumes, those concise documents that aim to summarize one’s career journey, are often the subject of intriguing stories. As people strive to stand out in a sea of applicants, some weave their narratives with a touch of exaggeration, presenting a handpicked version of their experiences.
Among the various accomplishments found in these pivotal pages, perhaps none is more captivating than listing “Housewife” as years of experience.
One woman explained a 13-year gap in her employment history by listing her experience as a stay-at-home mom on her CV.
He highlighted the valuable skills and dedication he acquired during that time.
Yugansh Chokra, founder of Growthic, a content marketing company, posted the woman’s CV on LinkedIn. She shared the resume writing:
“We saw this CV, she has 13 years of experience as a housewife. Definitely something that can make her stand out.”
He also shared why he loved the resume.
“And the reason I love this is because running a family is a real task, something that cannot be underestimated. Less than 20% of women in India are working in a professional capacity. Gender gaps in participation in domestic work are largest among couples with children. It is real work; you cannot discount the amount of work someone has to do to run a family.”
He asked his LinkedIn followers: “What do you think about this type of resume?”
According to the resume shared by Chokra, the woman left her last job in July 2009, where she was responsible for managing the hiring process.
She identifies herself as a housewife with 13 years of experience, showing her punctual and efficient management skills within her home.
Since being posted on LinkedIn two days ago, the post has garnered more than 500 reactions and numerous shares. Many people also took to the comments section to express their thoughts.
People in the LinkedIn post praised the woman for highlighting her experience as a stay-at-home mom on her CV, acknowledging the valuable skills that come with it. Chokra responded, stating that the role of a housewife is really challenging.
Many appreciated the woman’s open-mindedness and the qualitative value she brought to her resume, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging such contributions.
Others pointed out that housewives possess essential skills such as time management and decision making, which deserve more recognition.

One comment said: “I appreciate your confidence to include that skill in your CV. It should definitely be included in the CV if someone wishes to do the same. The work of a housewife is not recognized by society (not always, there are also exceptional cases). That job needs a lot of skill and patience.”
Another person wrote: “Absolutely! Women have to leave their jobs for various reasons, and one of the most important is for the good of the family… and. Once she is a mother, her main priority becomes the upbringing and development of her baby. One of the most thankless jobs is being a housewife and taking care of the family because at the end of the day people see housewives staying at home doing nothing but sleeping and watching TV. I really appreciate this woman who has the guts to justify her 13 year career gap in the most reasonable way. More rounds of applause to all the women who have ever taken a break from their careers for their children and family and were willing to start all over again from scratch.”
Chokra explained that the woman was overqualified for the position they were hiring for and out of their budget.
