A New Zealand woman who murdered her three daughters before attempting suicide has revealed she sleeps with teddy bears made from her clothes.
South African doctor Lauren Dickason, 42, was found guilty in August of murdering her twin daughters Maya and Karla, two, and her sister Lianè, six, in their home in Timaru, New Zealand, on August 16. September 2021.
She admitted to killing the girls, but pleaded not guilty to the murder, arguing that she was suffering from postpartum depression at the time and did not know what she was doing was wrong.
After a four-week trial, a jury of eight women and four men rejected Dickason’s legal defenses under New Zealand’s infanticide and insanity laws. They were not unanimous and voted 11 to 1 in favor of conviction, a split permitted under New Zealand law.

Dickason is now in custody at Hillmorton Hospital in Christchurch, awaiting sentencing. She communicates with a group of about 1,500 people who have expressed support for her during the trial and since she was convicted.
The Facebook group, ‘Support for Lauren Dickason’, was started in July 2022 and has approximately 1,500 members, mostly women, from New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, United Kingdom, United States, Namibia, United Arab Emirates, Canada and Netherlands. , Vietnam and Mauritius.
In a recent handwritten letter posted to the group, according to New Zealand site The Press, Dickason revealed that he sleeps with teddy bears sewn from dead girls’ clothes.
She admitted that at the time she was suffering from postpartum depression and didn’t know what she was doing was wrong.
Her letter was sent in response to a care package she received from the group on the second anniversary of her children’s deaths. The package included a peace lily plant and grocery products from a South African store in Christchurch.
“Thank you all for your love and support during this difficult time,” Dickason wrote.
In the publication he included a painting of a bouquet of sunflowers and wrote: “to commemorate the death of the girls on September 16.”
Sunflowers have become a symbol for the group, and members share photos of them planting the flower in support of Dickason.
Dickason also shared a photo of three teddy bears that she said were made from children’s clothing, with their names embroidered on their feet.

Dickason will be sentenced on December 19.
The support group plans to organize a peaceful march in Christchurch in November ahead of Dickason’s sentencing. More than 1,300 supporters have signed a petition calling for her to be given lenient sentencing due to her postpartum depression.
It is unclear if Dickason was ever diagnosed with the disease.
