Worker caught on video urinating in tank at Chinese Tsingtao brewery

Stomachs are churning among Chinese beer lovers after a worker was caught urinating in an ingredients tank at the country’s Tsingtao brewery in a sickening video.

The clip, which went viral last Thursday on Chinese microblogging site Weibo, shows a man in a uniform and helmet climbing into a container believed to contain raw ingredients for beer and urinating inside.

Tsingtao Brewery, China’s second-largest beer producer, issued a statement saying it was investigating the stomach-churning video, which was filmed at its plant in the city of Pingdu.

“Our company attaches great importance to the relevant video that emerged from Tsingtao No. 3 Brewery on October 19,” the beer maker said, the South China Morning Post reported. “We reported the incident to the police as soon as possible and public security agencies are involved in the investigation.”

A video shared on China’s Weibo microblogging site appeared to show a worker urinating into an ingredients container at a factory operated by Tsingtao Brewery. The images, which have been viewed tens of millions of times, were taken at factory No. 3 in Pingdu city.

Tsingtao’s statement assured its customers that the batch of ingredients from its facility in Pingdu had been sealed.

“Our company continues to intensify management efforts to ensure product quality and welcomes consumer supervision,” the manufacturer stated.

The Pingdu Market Authority said Friday that it quickly formed a team and conducted an investigation at the site featured in the viral video.

Both the worker seen in the video and the person who filmed it have reportedly been detained by police. The brewer said the batch of ingredients at the Pingdu plant had been sealed.

“Once verified, we will handle this seriously in accordance with the law and regulations,” the agency warned.

Both the man who appeared to urinate in the video and the person who filmed it have been detained by police, state media National Business Daily reported.

The outlet also said, citing an internal source familiar with the matter, that the duo were not direct employees of Tsingtao but external hires.

The urinating video has left outraged social media users foaming at the mouth, with some internet wits taking the opportunity to mock the quality of the local beer.

“I’ve always said the beer here is like horse urine,” one commenter joked. “Turns out I was wrong.”
