World Rainforest Day 2023: Tropical rainforests are home to an incredible variety of plant and animal species, many of which are unique and endemic to these habitats. World Rainforest Day highlights the importance of preserving rainforest ecosystems to safeguard biodiversity and prevent species extinction.
In order to highlight the importance of rainforests and raise awareness, World Rainforest Day has been celebrated on June 22 every year since its launch in 2017. Tropical rainforests are home to some of the most diverse flora and fauna in the world. Despite covering only 6 percent of the earth’s surface, tropical rainforests are home to around 50 percent of all terrestrial biodiversity.
Rainforests play a vital role in regulating global weather patterns. They absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, helping to mitigate climate change. World Rainforest Day emphasizes the connection between rainforest conservation and climate action.

World Rainforest Day 2023: Theme
This year’s theme is “Conserve. Restore. Regenerated”. It perfectly denotes the importance of the tropical forest and its healing power.
To ensure a healthy and prosperous planet, we must help restore ecosystems that have been degraded or destroyed, while conserving those that are still intact. Restoration and regeneration can occur in many ways, from actively planting trees or removing pressures so that nature can recover on its own, to creating new economic and agricultural systems that have nature at their center.
Why we celebrate World Rainforest Day
World Rainforest Day is an annual collaborative event created to celebrate, you guessed it, the world’s rainforests and to inspire the global community, and this year, guests at Cape Byron Distillery, to conserve one of the Earth’s most valuable resources.

World Rainforest Day 2023: History
Founded in 2017 by the Rainforest Partnership, World Rainforest Day celebrates the importance of healthy, standing rainforests for climate, biodiversity, culture and livelihoods, and convenes a global movement to protect and restore them.
In 2021, the Rainforest Partnership launched the World Rainforest Day Summit, bringing together people and organizations from all sectors around the world for dialogue and community building with a common purpose: to drive action and drive protection. resilient forestry
World Rainforest Day 2023: Carbon and Climate
Tropical rainforests play a crucial role in both regulating climate and absorbing and storing carbon. By circulating water through their networks of trees, they create currents that serve to carry water across entire continents, cooling them and providing them with a reliable water source. They also protect against erosion, drought and flooding, keeping the conditions of its perimeter relatively stable. Rainforests also remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it in the trees and soil, where it is safely captured and used by living organisms.
Their ability to absorb and store carbon and regulate the climate of entire continents makes rainforests our best allies when it comes to counteracting and reversing some of the worst effects of climate change. Rainforests are the original carbon sequestration tool, and they continue to play this role as we wait for innovative and scalable technologies to catch up.
Discover Incredible Rainforests In India
1. Andaman and Nicobar Islands
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have a tropical rainforest canopy, made of a mixed flora with elements from India, Myanmar, Malaysia, and endemic floral strains. About 2,200 plant varieties have been recorded so far, of which 200 are endemic and 1,300 are not found in mainland India.
2. Northwestern Ghats
Found mainly in Maharashtra and Karnataka, a stretch of moist deciduous forests can be found in the northern part of the Western Ghats covering a total area of around 30,000 square kilometers. The rich and dense forest cover begins in southwestern Maharashtra and extends to Karnataka and Kerala in southern India.

3.Asam
The Northeast itself is endowed with a host of natural gifts. One of the things unique about the rainforests here is that these gems are still untouched by marketing blemishes. They are also not densely packed with tourists. Primarily, jungles are present in northern Assam, but some stretches are dotted in regions across Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, etc.
4. Brahmaputra Valley
The Brahmaputra Valley semi-evergreen forests ecoregion supports the world’s largest single population of big-horned rhinoceros, carefully protected by the government of the Indian state of Assam in Kaziranga National Park, and some of the largest populations of elephants asians.
