World’s second most venomous snake found in toddler’s underwear drawer

An Australian snake catcher discovered the world’s second most venomous snake in a toddler’s underwear drawer.

Melbourne-based Mark Pelley was asked to remove a 5ft eastern brown snake from a 3-year-old boy’s bedroom.

“Mom went to get some clothes for her son and instead found a big five-foot brown snake,” Pelley wrote about the ordeal on Facebook.

“We found out what happened. Yesterday she had folded clothes and while she was taking the clothes out of [the] clothes line, [the] A brown snake got into it.”

Some people on Facebook asked how it was possible to miss the reptile.

“How could you put folded clothes with a 5-foot-long snake in the drawers without realizing it? I mean, a 5 foot brown would have some weight, right? Linda Swanwick asked in the comments section of the post.

Pelley responded that the creatures are actually lightweight and people tend not to pay attention to them.

“They weigh almost nothing and, seriously, this can happen to anyone,” he explained.

“I’ve seen people carry brown snakes in their purses or shopping bags. One day this could happen to you.”

Eastern brown snakes, which are “quick, aggressive and known for their bad temper,” according to Australian Geographic, are native to eastern and central Australia, as well as southern New Guinea, and can grow up to 7 feet long.
