Challa Srinivas Sastry is retracing the journey of Lord Rama from Ayodhya to Rameswaram during his ‘Vanavas’ (exile). He said that he intended to travel in reverse order, visiting all the Shiva Lingas created by the Lord along the way, and began his journey on July 20.

Sastry has already visited Puri in Odisha, Trimbak in Maharashtra and Dwaraka in Gujarat.

He stated that he would walk more than 8,000 kilometers, carrying on his head the footwear that he would hand over to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath once he reached the holy city.

Sastry stated that he has been following the map “discovered” by Dr Ramavatar, a retired Income Tax Department official who investigated the passage through which Lord Ram walked during Vanavas for 15 years.

“In Ayodhya, my father participated in Karseva.” He was a devout follower of Lord Hanuman. His ambition was to see the Ram temple erected in Ayodhya. “As he is no longer with us, I decided to fulfill his wish,” Sastry told PTI.

Where is he now?

He is currently in Chitrakoot, UP, with five others, about 272 kilometers from Ayodhya, according to Sastry. He hopes to reach his goal in about ten days. Sastry, who travels 30 to 50 kilometers every day, claimed that the item he is carrying is worth approximately Rs 65 lakh, part of which was donated by others.

He is the founder of the Ayodhya Bhagyanagar Sitarama Foundation in the city and aspires to stay permanently in Ayodhya, where he intends to build a house.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate a huge Ram Temple at the birthplace of the Lord on January 22.

How many bricks has Sastry donated so far?

He performed the Pooja of Sri Ram Paduka which will be offered to Sri Ram at Sri Ram Mandir, Ayodhya. Donated by Sri Challa Srinivas Shastry at Ganesh temple, Tarnaka. Pooja was performed all over India when the Padukas arrived from Ayodhya and will be taken back there. pic.twitter.com/j2GRhDK146

Sastry stated that he has so far donated five silver bricks as part of his contribution to the Ram temple following the Supreme Court decision in 2019.

“I am currently wearing gold plated ‘padukalu’ (footwear) made of ‘panch dhatu’ (five metals) to give to Lord Shri Ram,” he went on to say.
