The CEO of an Indian artificial intelligence startup has been arrested for the alleged murder of her 4-year-old son after the child’s remains were found inside her luggage, according to reports.
Suchana Seth, who runs The Mindful AI Lab, was detained in the southern state of Karnataka on Monday after authorities contacted a taxi driver transporting her and asked him to take her to the nearest police station, reports Reuters, citing Goa police. officer Paresh Naik.
Naik said Seth checked into a hotel in Goa state on Saturday, but the boy was missing when she left the property on Monday night, according to Reuters.
Naik told the news agency that the hotel’s housekeeping staff found blood stains inside Seth’s room and notified the police.
“When her luggage was opened, the girl’s body was found,” North Goa Superintendent of Police Nidhin Valsa told Reuters.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged murder are unclear, but Indian news website The Week said Seth allegedly told police that she and her husband are separated and divorce proceedings are ongoing.
Seth has been returned to Goa state for questioning, while her husband, who was in Indonesia at the time of the murder, has been asked to return to India, according to Reuters.
