Andhra Pradesh to start census of backward classes
On November 15, C. Srinivas Venugopala Krishna, Minister for Welfare of Backward Classes of Andhra Pradesh, declared that the census of backward classes would begin. The state government uses a rural secretariat system and a large number of volunteers to improve community services through a comprehensive strategy. To ensure better community services, the Andhra Pradesh state government, through Backward Classes Welfare Minister C. Srinivas Venugopala Krishna, on Wednesday said the backward classes census would begin around November 15.
According to the minister, a considerable number of volunteers and the village secretariat system will be used for the caste census. “This caste census will begin on November 15 and will last for a few weeks thereafter. At a press conference held at the Secretariat, Krishna stated: “The village secretariat system will be used extensively for the British Columbia caste census, along with the volunteer system.” The Minister also briefed the media about different castes in backward communities, stating that these groups have no idea how many members there are. He noted that these castes do not know how well represented they are in different areas, but also noted that the census will shed light on this web of misinformation.
He highlighted that on April 11, the central government received a decision from Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, urging it to conduct a caste census in addition to the population census. It has been found that a simultaneous implementation is unlikely to occur very soon.
