In recent news, it was reported that in a tragic incident, a University of Baltistan professor was shot dead by suspected robbers at the Babusar Top while returning home from Skardu in Gilgit Baltistan, the place where he used to work. It was reported that a tragedy struck on Babusar Road as Professor Haji Rashid, a resident of Punjab was shot and killed by armed men during a robbery. The incident was revealed while Professor Haji Rashid with his colleagues was en route to a leisure trip during the course of his journey.

According to medical reports, Rashid was an assistant professor at Karakoram University Baltistan campus. According to reports, the culprits placed boulders on the road as part of a calculated plan to dismiss the vehicles and his colleagues who were spotted by the robbers. Moreover, they gradually executed a U-turn before they were fired upon by the robbers. Unfortunately, the Professor, Rashid died on the spot when the robbers fled the scene. There were many local residents said that the region had been experiencing a string of similar incidents which involved the robbery of vehicles for a very long period of time.
Reportedly, the area in question lies in close proximity to the boundary between Mansehra and Gilgit often referred to as the Mansehra-Gilgit boundary. Unfortunately, the tragic incident highlighted the security measures and vigilance in regions that retaken over by travelers, especially in areas that have been watched out for criminal activity.
On Monday, Pakistan Tourism Development advised tourists and travelers venturing into the Northern areas of the country to use Karakoram Highway to avoid any path holes. However, according to an advisory issued at the PTDC, Babusar, Gilgit-Baltistan road was closed to all kinds of traffic due to recent floods that submerged a maximum part of leading to scenic tourism.
Reportedly, Babusar Road was closed due to the increasing flood. Whereas, the tourists were going to Gilgit via Babusar Road.
