Lying former Long Island Rep. George Santos is about to become something of a movie icon, and no, this isn’t another one of his fake stories.
HBO Films has acquired the rights to a book published last week that details the short political career of the representative questioned by the truth.
Santos (R-NY) was expelled from Congress on Friday after a scathing ethics report alleged he “brazenly stole” campaign funds and used political dollars for Onlyfans and Botox.
The upcoming motion picture has been billed as a “forensic and darkly comic look” at the now-former lawmaker.
To tell the curious story of the young Santos, HBO is hiring Frank Rich to executive produce its interpretation of “The Fabulist: The Lying, Hustling, Grifting, Stealing, and Very American Legend of George Santos,” which premiered Nov. 28 .

Mike Makowsky of HBO’s “Bad Education” will write Santos’ film, with the book’s author serving as a consultant to Newsday columnist Mark Chiusano, Deadline reported.
“I can’t think of a better team for this. Legends @frankrichny, who has worked on some of my favorite shows, and @mike_makowsky, whose BAD EDUCATION is a perfect Long Island movie,” Chiusano posted on X.
“The story of a seemingly minor local race that ended in a battle for the soul of Long Island, and unexpectedly paved the way for the world’s most famous (and now disgraced) congressman,” reads the film’s tagline, Variety reported.
“The Gatsby-esque journey of a man from nowhere who exploited the system, waged war on truth, and swindled one of the richest districts in the country to achieve his American dream.”

A specific release date and cast have not yet been announced.
Santos gave Republicans one of their few gains in the 2022 cycle, turning New York’s 3rd Congressional District red.
Shortly after his election victory, revelations emerged that he had fabricated large portions of his personal biography, such as claiming that he attended Baruch College and had a career on Wall Street.

He is currently facing a 23-count indictment for alleged embezzlement and defrauding donors.
Santos was expelled from Congress on Friday in a 311-114 vote, with 105 Republicans backing the effort to unseat him, making him just the sixth member of the House of Representatives to be expelled in US history.
He has publicly announced that he will not seek re-election.
However, Santos has refused to go away quietly. Now that he’s out of the House, the former Empire State representative is fighting back.
Santos has promised to file multiple complaints against his former peers to the House Ethics Committee on Monday.
