President Biden on Wednesday boasted about his high school football glory days and claimed to have been “runner-up in the state scoring championship” during his remarks at a summit of Native American nations.
The president, known for exaggerating or embellishing details about his life, lamented that in his youth he was forced to choose between playing lacrosse or football, and chose pigskin for its skill on the grill.
“You couldn’t play both in the same season,” said Biden, 81.
“And because I was a 6-foot, 158-pound power wing,” he explained as the audience began to laugh.
The laughter led him to further justify his decision by boasting about his scoring skills at Delaware’s Archmere Academy in the early 1960s.
“I was runner-up in the state scoring championship,” the president said. “Don’t laugh, man.”
