Woman gets hospitalised for drinking excessive water, was trying the ’75 hard’ challenge
As part of the challenge, Michelle Fairburn, a mother and real estate agent from Toronto, admits to drinking four litres of water every day for 12 days. In her TikTok video, she claimed feeling more ill and fearing she had water poisoning as a result of her excessive water drinking.
Fairburn said on the 12th day of the challenge that she had been experiencing discomfort the night before, waking up many times to use the loo. She was dizzy, weak, and unable to eat.
She sought medical counsel from a doctor since she was concerned about her condition. In a subsequent video, she revealed that the doctor had diagnosed her with severe salt deficit, which can be fatal.
As a result, she was urged to seek treatment in a hospital. Sodium shortage, also known as hyponatremia, happens when a large amount of water is consumed, causing a severe decline in sodium levels in the body.

Recognising the gravity of the situation, Fairburn advised her followers that she needed to go to the hospital for immediate medical attention. To minimise further difficulties, the medical professionals intended to gradually boost her sodium levels.
Fairburn’s medical team advised her to dramatically restrict her water intake in light of her health scare. Instead of the excessive four litres per day, she was recommended to drink no more than half a litre every day.
This tragedy serves as a sharp warning of the perils of viral challenges that encourage excessive behaviour without regard for the individual’s health and well-being.
Excessive water consumption may appear harmless, but as Michelle Fairburn’s experience indicates, it can lead to serious health problems and should be addressed with caution.
