ChatGPT is probably the most popular and well-known AI chatbot on the internet today. The chatbot created by OpenAI, which is capable of doing a lot of exciting things, has caused nothing but a stir since its launch. ChatGPT’s short data set is one of its drawbacks, although the debut of its more recent OpenAI GPT-4 model has exacerbated the situation. This is no longer the case as ChatGPT now has access to the internet for the first time. OpenAI has officially released plugins for ChatGPT that greatly extend its capabilities. Plugins give ChatGPT access to the Internet
OpenAI published plugins for ChatGPT to allow it to use extended data. These plugins provide ChatGPT internet connectivity for the first time. The chatbot will also be able to access chosen databases and third-party information sources. This will allow ChatGPT to interact with specific websites and obtain information from their respective databases.
OpenAI has released eleven plugins for ChatGPT that were developed by a variety of companies. They include plugins from well-known firms such as Slack, Zapier, Expedia (see tweet), FiscalNote, Instacart, Milo, and OpenTable, among others. These plugins will provide a lot of features to the users. Using ChatGPT, you can now plan vacations, make restaurant recommendations, shop for produce, order from local grocery stores, and more.
But, OpenAI’s own plugins, such as a web browser and code interpreter, are undoubtedly the most fascinating. The web browser plugin allows ChatGPT to retrieve data directly from the Internet. The browser takes advantage of the Bing AI application programming interface.
This allows the chatbot to not only browse the internet, but also intelligently mine data and form conclusions from it. OpenAI demonstrated the same capability in a short demo when it asked ChatGPT about the 2023 Oscars, and the bot responded in kind after searching the internet.
In contrast, the code interpreter plugin uses Python to execute logical calculations in response to set challenges. Both plugins are currently in the Alpha stage.
ChatGPT Browse the Internet: What does it mean?
In addition to the web browsing plugin, OpenAI seems to be developing a number of plugins for ChatGPT that will allow users to book restaurants, book trips, buy groceries, and solve complex math problems. This is all made possible by early plugins from OpenAI partners, including FiscalNote, Instacart, Klarna, Milo, Kayak, OpenTable, Shopify, Slack, Zapier, etc.
Restaurant reservation: The OpenTable plugin allows ChatGPT to search restaurants for available reservations and allows users to choose the most suitable restaurants.
Go shopping: The Instacart plugin allows customers to order from local merchants through an AI chatbot.
Improve productivity: With Slack and Zapier, users will be able to integrate with Google Sheets, Gmail, and Trello, among others.
Code interpreter: This is an experimental plugin that interprets Python code and can manage uploads and downloads. Furthermore, it can be used to solve quantitative and qualitative mathematical difficulties. It is capable of converting file types and is useful for data analysis and visualization.
Surprisingly, this is not the first time the company has developed an Internet-accessible chatbot. OpenAI developed a chatbot called WebGPT in 2021, which was believed to have cited material from questionable sources.
Interestingly, Meta Inc. also experimented with its now-defunct BlenderBot 3.0, which was discontinued after providing inaccurate results. However, with ChatGPT enabled for the web, OpenAI claims to have created all the essential precautions to prevent the bot from engaging in “undesirable behaviors”.

As stated above, the plugins are currently in a limited alpha testing phase and are therefore not available to all users. OpenAI is extending access to ChatGPT plugins through a registration-only queue. The company says that it will initially give priority to a limited number of ChatGPT Plus developers and customers.
