Controversy In Paradise: Hawaii Will Be ‘Utterly Destroyed’ On Sunday, Says Church

Hawaii will be ‘destroyed on Sunday,’ claims the Westboro Baptist Church, known for its divisive views and acts. The island state is juggling scepticism and worry as the date draws near.

In a statement planning a protest against three churches in Hawaii, the Westboro Baptist Church said that “the churches of Hawaii have doomed the inhabitants with lies about the eternal God.”

“On Sunday, the watchers must (and will) publicly issue the warning.”

In addition to Wailuku Union Church in Wailuku, the Westboro Baptist Church announced that its members will picket outside Grace Bible Church and King’s Cathedral in Kahului.

It was not immediately obvious why or how the church felt that Hawaii would be devastated if it travelled from Topeka to Maui to condemn the three congregations. UPI has contacted the churches for comment.

Westboro has gained notoriety for its divisive demonstrations. The church announced in 2012 that its members would protest outside Sandy Hook Elementary School, the scene of the shooting that claimed the lives of 28 individuals, including 20 children.

Before her Twitter account was hacked by Anonymous’ Cosmo the God in 2012, member Shirley Phelps-Roper declared, “Westboro will picket Sandy Hook Elementary School to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgement.”

The hacker group then published personal information on church members. The group is well known for its prolonged animosity towards LGBTQ+ issues.
