Birth and early life
Deepika Kumari was born on June 13, 1994 in Ranchi. Her father’s name is Shivnarayan Mahato who is an auto driver and her mother’s name is Geeta Mahato who is a nurse at Ranchi Medical College. In her early days, the family could not afford to train her, but Deepika continued practicing archery with the help of homemade bamboo bows and arrows. Meanwhile, she was helped by her cousin Vidya Kumari, who was training at Tata Archery Academy at that time.

Career
Deepika made her career in professional archery in the year 2006 and joined Tata Archery Academy in Jamshedpur. He received Rs 500 as stipend. She was the second Indian after Palton Hansda to win the junior compound competition at the 2006 Archery World Cup in Mérida, Mexico. At the age of 15 she won the 11th World Youth Archery Championships in 2009 held in Ogden, Utah, United States.
Deepika won two gold medals in the women’s team recurve event at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. She was honored at the CWG Award (Women) with Outstanding Performance at the Sahara Sports Awards 2010 ceremony. Deepika won her first gold medal at a World Cup in Antalya, Turkey, in 2012.
In 2013 he won a gold medal in stage 3 of the Archery World Cup held in Medellín, Colombia. In 2014, Deepika was featured by Forbes (India) as one of the ’30 under 30′. She failed to join the Indian team in 2014 after finishing in the top 4 in the national qualifiers. In 2015, Deepika won her first medal in the second stage of the World Cup, where she won a bronze medal in the individual event. At the World Championships in Copenhagen she won the team silver medal with Laxmirani Majhi and Rimil Buriuly. She captured a bronze medal at the Asian Championships with Jayanta Talukdar in the mixed recurve team in November 2015.
In the first leg of the World Cup in Shanghai in April 2016, she tied Ki Bo-bae’s world record (686/72) in the women’s classic event. She earned an Olympic quota in the continental qualification tournament held on the sidelines of the 21st Asian Archery Championships in Bangkok in November 2019. Deepika took home 3 gold medals in the Phase 3 of the World Cup Archery at Paris 2021. He scored the 13th triple gold and became the 11th archer to complete the feat in the 15-year history of the Hyundai Archery World Cup.
