Judges only became suspicious of his qualifications after his recent arrest. The Rapid Action Team of the Nairobi branch of the Law Society of Kenya arrested him for false representation following public complaints.

The official account of the Kenya Law Society Nairobi Branch posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the branch wishes to notify all members of the society and the public that BRIAN MWENDA NJAGI is not a High Court lawyer from Kenya; According to Society records, he is also not a member of the Branch.”

He is detained by officials for further investigation.

The Law Society of Kenya stated that Mwenda criminally accessed its portal and… “identified an account with a name corresponding to his own, manipulated the details and uploaded his own photo in an attempt to infiltrate the Kenyan legal profession,” according to a report in Ghana Web.

After an emergency meeting, they performed an analysis and discovered that…“Brian Mwenda stole the identity of a lawyer with a name similar to his – Brian Mwenda Ntwiga – after the legitimate lawyer contacted the Registry after realizing he could no longer log into the system.”

After telling the IT department about her issues on September 28, they quickly discovered that she couldn’t log into her membership site because the information, especially her email, didn’t match her details.

“On August 5, 2022, Brian Mwenda Ntwiga was admitted to the bar, his correct email address was captured and an account was opened on the Advocates portal. We contacted lawyer Brian Mwenda Ntwiga, who confirmed that he had not requested a certificate of practice since his entry because he had been working in the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic and did not require a certificate of practice”, the statement said.

The Law Society of Kenya further said: “It wasn’t until September 2023, when he attempted to log into the system and activate his profile to apply for his practicing certificate, that he realized he could not access his LSK portal.”

They also shared that Brian Mwenda changed his profile picture once he accessed the platform and applied for and paid for his practicing certificate.

“When he was allowed to access the account, he took control of the portal, changed his workplace profile photo and applied for and paid for the practicing certificate. However, his application was not processed as he was required to provide documents, including the certificate of incorporation,” they said.
