Father of three, on way to high school reunion, killed by career criminal, police say

A prominent Tennessee businessman was shot and killed by a man with 66 prior arrests while he was on his way to attend his high school class’s 20th anniversary reunion, authorities said.

Christopher Wright, 38, was in downtown Chattanooga Thursday night to meet with other Baylor School alumni when he got into an argument with Darryl Roberts, a career criminal known as “Too Tall,” Chattanoogan reports. com.

Surveillance of the incident shows Wright, a father of three, including an 8-week-old baby, speaking to Roberts, 57, and another man before walking away.

Wright then turns to say something to the two men, and Roberts reacts by approaching him and firing his gun at Wright’s head, police said.

Robert quickly fled, but was captured by police the next day in a search coordinated with the United States Marshals Service and the ATF.

Court records show Roberts has a long record that includes assaults, robberies, drug charges, robberies, a series of traffic violations and an aggravated robbery case in 2000.

Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly condemned the shooting, calling it “an isolated, senseless and brazen act of gun violence” and suggesting it was inevitable.
