Former GameStop Marine Worker Allegedly Shot to Death College Student Who Stole Pokémon Cards

A retired Marine who works as a clerk at a Florida GameStop store has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after police said he shot and killed a robber who tried to steal $600 worth of Pokémon trading cards.

Derrick Guerrero, 33, was working a shift at a video game store in a suburban Fort Lauderdale shopping center Tuesday night when a thief grabbed five boxes of “ultra-premium” Pokémon Scarlet and Violet cards and ran toward the exit, Pembroke Pines police said. in a report released Wednesday.

The cards, based on the popular Japanese media franchise, sell for $120 a box.

Guerrero pulled a gun from his waistband and fired one shot, hitting the robber in the side, police said.
