Google search now offers a guitar tuner

If you’re in a hurry and misplaced your guitar tuner, and you’re having a gig soon (yes, that’s a lot of ifs), you can now ask Google for help tuning your guitar.

Android Police first noticed the new feature, dubbed “Google Tuner,” a few days ago. To use it, simply google “Google Tuner” and you’ll be greeted with a fully functional tuner that will listen to the sounds coming out of your guitar and tell you if it’s in tune using your computer or your phone’s microphone (you need to authorize it first).

A similar feature previously existed, according to Android Police, and you could use it by telling the Google Assistant to “tune my instrument,” but now it’s available as a search phrase and works on any device.

Surprisingly, it only works if you type “Google Tuner” directly into the search field. You won’t get the same result if you search for “guitar tuner” or “instrument tuner”, which doesn’t make sense.

I’ve tested the feature on both a Mac and an iPhone, and it works fine, although it won’t replace my regular guitar tuner (you may need to play a little higher if you’re using an iPhone). Your phone, on the other hand, is constantly with you, while your guitar tuner is not.
