A heroic mother and her 1-year-old son died in a house fire in Houston on Saturday after she pulled her two oldest children from the flames.
Giovanna Cabrera, 31, quickly pulled her 9-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter from the flames and ran back to rescue her 1-year-old son, the Houston Fire Department said.
But firefighters found the mother and her baby dead inside.

“She held him in her arms like he was a baby, so I know she tried. I know that if she could have… she would have made it through,” her sister Giselle Bueno told KTRK.
“It’s still surreal. I feel like she is somewhere else,” the grieving sister told KPRC. “As if I was going to see her later. That is, she feels as if she has simply burned down the house. “No, no, nothing happened to my sister or the baby.”

“It’s really nice to see how important she was and how everyone sees her for who she was, because she was a hero,” Bueno told KTRK.
While it’s unclear what sparked the deadly fire, Houston firefighters will walk through the neighborhood Tuesday to hand out safety tips and talk to residents about having working smoke detectors, home escape plans and fire prevention. .
