A car-sized tumbleweed was seen running down a California highway on Tuesday.
The huge wandering weed followed the flow of traffic as it moved through Simi Valley, video shows.
The National Weather Service confirmed that the colossal tumbleweed was created and driven by the Santa Ana winds, which occur when air from a high-pressure region over the dry desert flows west toward low pressure off the California coast.
The state’s coast is experiencing moderate Santa Ana winds this week, with gusts of 45 mph expected to hit some areas over the weekend.
“Yesterday we saw a giant tumbleweed like this in Simi Valley! Has anyone else in #SoCal had a recent experience with tumbleweeds due to the #SantaAnaWinds?” the Los Angeles division of the NWS he wrote on Twitter.

The video, which racked up more than 10 million views, attracted social media users who were stunned by the height and density of the tumbleweed.
“That’s a fallen buffalo,” one user wrote.
“It looks like Mother Nature is playing basketball with tumbleweeds!” said another.
Another wrote: “That looks more like a bale of hay!”
Although the ball of plants seemed extraordinarily massive, tumbleweeds have been known to grow up to 6 feet tall without intervention.
