Hyderabad Woman Pursuing Masters In US Found Starving And Depressed On Streets Of Chicago

A distressing video of a young woman from Hyderabad has garnered widespread attention, leading to an urgent plea for assistance from Indian authorities.

The distressed individual, Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi, had embarked on a journey to the United States with aspirations to pursue a master’s degree in Information Science at TRINE University, Detroit.

Unfortunately, her dreams took a heartbreaking turn when she grappled with depression and hunger after her belongings were allegedly stolen, leaving her in a desolate condition on the streets of Chicago.

The distressing situation faced by Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi gained public attention after a compassionate citizen shared a video of her on Twitter, making an urgent appeal to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for immediate assistance.

Amplifying the cause further, Amjed Ullah Khan, the spokesperson of Majlis Bachao Tahreek, also took to Twitter to raise awareness about Zaidi’s plight.

The collective efforts on social media aimed to bring attention to her predicament and seek necessary support from concerned authorities.

He wrote, “Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi from Hyd went to pursue an MS from TRINE University, Detroit was found in a very bad condition in Chicago, her mother appealed Dr S Jaishankar to bring back her daughter.”

The video depicts Zaidi in a visibly weak and malnourished state as she introduces herself and discloses her identity, mentioning her origin from Hyderabad.

Initially struggling to recall her name, she recounts the challenges of her deteriorating condition. Zaidi shares her experience of being taken to a hospital for treatment, which weakened her after blood samples were extracted for testing.

During the video, a concerned man offers her some food and reassures her of assistance, going as far as suggesting that she contemplate returning to India for support and care. 

The scene highlights the critical nature of Zaidi’s circumstances and the genuine concern expressed by those who encountered her distressing condition on the streets of Chicago.

The Consulate General of India in Chicago responded to the distressing video on Twitter. The tweet read, “We have just come to know about the case of Ms. Syed Lulu Minhaj from. Please DM to keep in touch.”

The distressing state of Zaidi has left countless individuals in shock, and they are now urging for swift action to ensure her safe return to Hyderabad. 

Among those expressing astonishment at her condition is a Twitter user who shared, “I am shocked to see her in this state. I’ve known her since childhood, and she was an incredibly diligent and studious child.”

Adding to the appeal for assistance, Zaidi’s mother, Sayeda Wahaj Fatima, has written a heartfelt letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, seeking urgent intervention in rescuing her daughter and facilitating her repatriation to India. 

The heartfelt plea highlights the urgency of the situation and the growing concern for Zaidi’s well-being, drawing attention from authorities to act promptly and secure her safe return home.

The letter reads, “My daughter Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi, a resident of Maula Ali in Telangana, went to pursue her Masters in Information Science from TRINE University, Detroit, USA, during August 2021 and was often in touch with us. For the past two months, she has not been in touch with me, and recently, we learned through two Hyderabad youths that my daughter is in depression, and someone stole her belongings, which left her to starvation. My daughter was spotted on the roads of Chicago in the USA.”

In her earnest plea, the mother added, “It is requested to kindly ask the embassy of India, Washington DC, USA, and Indian Consulate in Chicago, USA, to immediately interfere and bring back my daughter as soon as possible back to India. Necessary action taken in this regard may be informed.”

In the same post, the leader also shared pertinent details of Zaidi’s passport and visa, urging the authorities to provide their utmost assistance in aiding her situation.
