People form friendships and bonds with strangers when traveling to distant countries, regardless of the language barrier.
Whether striking up a conversation in a cafe, searching for directions, or participating in group activities, the shared context of being in an unfamiliar place encourages people to connect, share stories, and build relationships that could last beyond the duration of their travels.

Who was the person who experienced the great hospitality of the locals in Vietnam?
A man from India took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a bond he developed with a cafe owner in Vietnam. Suji stated that when he visited Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, in 2022, he went to a cafe to have a drink.
What did the group do about language barriers?
There was a language barrier between him and the cafe owner because he didn’t know Vietnamese and the owner didn’t speak English. So they communicated through Google Translate. Surprisingly, he claimed that the owner invited him and his friend to dinner with his family.
“For me, this symbolizes true hospitality. In 2022 I stopped by a cafe in Hanoi for a drink. Despite the language barrier (I don’t speak Vietnamese and the owner doesn’t speak English), we spoke via Google Translate. Surprisingly, the owner made us an offer for the two of us to join his family for dinner! he wrote.
How did you find the Vietnamese people?
“Despite the language barrier, I found Vietnamese to be some of the friendliest in Southeast Asia,” said one social media user. “Been there; done that!” I was surprised how even some street vendors were openly using smartphone apps to translate negotiations,” another commented.
