An Instagram-famous plastic surgeon who promised to make his clients’ buttocks “pop” allegedly botched procedures that led to scarring or infections in California, according to dozens of former patients.

Mowlavi bragged about his craft in numerous videos posted on social media.

He has denied allegations of wrongdoing, arguing in court papers that the patients knew about and assumed the risks of the surgeries, the LA Times reported.
The Medical Board of California filed an indictment against Mowlavi in 2021 that alleged multiple violations. The following year, the board suspended his license for 90 days and placed him on 10 years’ probation, the outlet reported.
He reportedly did not confess to wrongdoing, but accepted the ruling.
One Mowlavi patient even died in 2018, days after undergoing liposuction surgery, breast implants and other work, the LA Times reported.

More than 20 patients reportedly sued Mowlavi in December 2021 because they said he posted photos of them online without their approval. One patient said she was even insulted during the video she posted.
“This woman had no magic or pop, she had a square masculine shape,” Mowlavi said before showing off her post-surgery body, according to court records reviewed by the LA Times.
He has pushed for a stay of most lawsuits involving him after he filed for bankruptcy in 2022.
The questioned doctor also faces a lawsuit from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office for alleged illegal and unfair business practices, and an ongoing criminal investigation.
