John Farnham’s son gives an update on dad’s health

During a live interview, John Farnham’s son provided an update on his father’s health, stating that the legendary Australian artist has returned to singing and has taken up “tap dancing”. Robert Farnham made an on-air appearance with Gaynor Wheatley, a close family friend of his father’s, to discuss the debut of the acclaimed John Farnham: Finding The Voice on Channel Seven.

John Farnham's health

Robert revealed to Sunrise hosts Nat Barr and Matt Shirvington that his father was recovering well from major surgery last August. After being diagnosed with throat cancer, the 74-year-old underwent a 12-hour surgery during which doctors removed a malignant tumor from his mouth and reconstructed his jaw.

Robert now claims his father is “cancer free” and “very, very happy.” He stated in Sunrise that he “is doing fantastic”. “Just the other day he was, you know, walking around with his cane and doing a little bit of dancing, which was pretty cool. He is quite happy since he walks his dog a lot. The pleased son went on to say that his father had even taken up singing once more. He said: “He is doing well and he is very optimistic.” Cancer is a terrible, terrible thing, as we’ve mentioned before. And even though he doesn’t have cancer, now is his time to walk that path. And yes, he is doing fantastically well. So to hear it is very, very good. He sings the whole song at home one more time.

Later, Robert and Wheatley went a step further on The Morning Show, claiming that the singer was “literally” tap dancing as he recovered. Robert told hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies: “He’s doing great, it’s a lot of fun again.” Cancer is a cruel disease, and he had to make that trip at that time. However, he is now cancer free and tap dances his way. “Literally!” Wheatley concluded. “Yes, literally,” said Robert. And yes, he is currently having fun. Wheatley and Robert said on The Morning Show that Farnham was pleased with the film’s popularity despite not having seen it.
