Johnny Lever was born on August 14, 1957 in a Christian Telegu family in Andhra Pradesh. His real name is John Prakash Rao Janumala. Although he grew up in the King’s Circle area of Mumbai, more commonly known as Dharavi. He studied in Andhra Education Society’s English Medium School up to class 7, but could not continue his education due to financial problems.

Career
Johnny started doing odd jobs on the streets of Mumbai. He learned the ways of acting comically in Yakutpara, an ancient city of Hyderabad. He began his career in the entertainment industry as a comedian. Johnny performed in the Parade Orchestras and Tabassum in comedy acts. After gaining considerable fame, he joined the music director duo Kalyanji-Anandji. He performed in many shows and world tours with them, the first big tour of his was with Amitabh Bachchan in 1982, he gained more popularity and left Hindustan Lever Ltd in 1981.
Johnny continued acting on tours, on one of those tours actor Sunil Dutt recognized his talent and offered him his first film, Dar ka Rishta (1982). He went on to record a comic cassette, “Hasi ke Hangame”, which made him a recognized voice through audio media and gained more recognition. In 1986 he acted in a charity show opposite famous names in Hindi films, producer Gul Anand, seeing the potential in him, offered him the film Jalwa (1987), where he worked alongside Naseeruddin Shah. In the 1980s he did several other films like Tum Par Hum Qurban, he acted in a large number of films including ‘Tezaab’, ‘Kasam’, Kishan Kanhaiya, Khatarnak, Hero Hiralal.
In the 1990s, his breakthrough and success was Baazigar, with his most praised and acclaimed portrayal of the character ‘Babulal’. Even with her busy film gigs, she continued acting on stage, the original roots of it.
He worked in a Tamil film in 2011, ‘Anbirrku Allavilai’. She has been a judge of the reality television show in 2007. In the late 2000s she worked in numerous films that are loved for her comedic acting and references like Houseful, Hera Phiri, Phir Hera Pheri.
