Kevin then started saving up to buy it and also started running small businesses including real estate, pig farming, etc. He then decided to sell his farm and in 1997 he finally bought his first McDonald’s restaurant.

In 1999 he sold that franchise to move to Oklahoma, where he bought 2 McDonald’s restaurants. Over the next 10 years, he became the owner of 18 McDonald’s franchises and they became the reason for the employment of thousands of people in the northeast Oklahoma region. But eventually, after entering politics, the burden certainly increased on his shoulders and he decided to sell his collection of McDonald’s franchises. In 2021 he sold the last piece of his McDonald’s franchise.

When Jim Bridenstine’s 2018 resignation from office in the United States House of Representatives came, Kevin jumped in and succeeded him in Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District election, also defeating Tim Harris and Tim Gilpin. He was sworn in at the House of Representatives on November 13. Kevin Hern won Oklahoma’s 2020 and 2022 elections for United States Representative.
