Las Vegas teens accused of intentionally hitting and killing retired police officer on bicycle will remain in custody

The two Las Vegas teens accused of killing a retired police officer in a hit-and-run last month will remain in custody until their next hearings, even though one of them boasted to police that he would be out of jail in few days.

Jesus Ayala, 18, and Jzamir Keys, 16, charged with murder in the death of Andreas Probst, 64, were arraigned in two separate court hearings Tuesday, Fox 5 Vegas reported.

Probst was riding his bike on Aug. 14 when a car came up behind him and crashed into him. Police identified Ayala, who was 17 at the time, as the driver of the car.

After his arrest, Ayala allegedly told officers he would be out of jail in just 30 days with a measly “slap on the wrist,” according to an arrest report.

“Do you think this shitty juvenile is going to do some shit? I’ll leave in 30 days. I bet you,” according to an arrest report, Ayala said.

After being told he would likely be put in an “adult jail” due to the severity of the crimes, Ayala allegedly said, “It’s just a fucking hit-and-run. “Slap on the wrist.”

An arrest report said the interaction was captured on body camera.

Video of the fatal crash allegedly recorded by Keys shows the hit-and-run was intentional, police said.

During a Sept. 14 interview with a school resource officer, Keys allegedly told the officer he knew he was being interviewed because he “killed that guy on the bike.” Keys then provided police with video she had taken of the incident.

The teens are suspected of using several stolen cars in a series of incidents before Probst’s murder.

Ayala faces additional charges including failure to stop at the scene of an accident involving death or personal injury, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a burglary tool.

The accused driver, Ayala, opted for the right to an expedited preliminary hearing, which is set for October 10.

Keys, who took video of the incident, asked to extend his preliminary hearing date until November. Her hearing was set for November 8.

Bail will be discussed at upcoming hearings for each suspect. However, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said he will ask that both Ayala and Keys be denied bail.
