A Christmas event was held at the London headquarters of the Conservative Party on December 14, 2020, according to recently leaked video. The footage, which the Mirror was able to obtain, shows around 24 staff dancing and consuming alcohol at the event on the same day that Matt Hancock, the former health secretary, announced the implementation of Tier 3 limits in London to stem the rise of Covid infections. “Please keep your distance” sign is ignored when two people run towards a buffet table. One of the men in the background asks if the meeting is being filmed as he shows disbelief realizing that it is being recorded. Someone else replies, “It’s for the party, erm, for party use.” As long as we don’t air it, another participant continues: “We’re kind of breaking the rules.” This is reportedly the first video of Westminster’s rule-breaking parties to surface.

Just days after Boris Johnson was found to have lied about complying with the rules, a Partygate video surfaced that appears to show Tory staff members dancing, drinking and laughing over Covid lockdown restrictions “doubling down”, which adds extra pressure to the party. According to The Mirror, the film, believed to have been shot on December 14, 2020, when indoor socializing was banned in some parts of the UK, captures staff members for the first time laughing about breaking the rules during their Christmas party at Conservative Campaign Headquarters (CCHQ) in London.
Four staff members were subjected to “formal disciplinary action” as a result of the “unsanctioned” party, which was sponsored by the campaign group backing Shaun Bailey’s ultimately unsuccessful bid for London mayor. The party itself had already been documented when footage first surfaced last year; The police, however, denied an investigation at the time due to a lack of evidence. The video has now added further evidence of the extent of the festivities within the Conservative party. As a man and woman hold hands and dance, one viewer can be heard saying, “As long as we don’t stream, we’re like breaking the rules,” before laughing.
The event was held just days before Mr Johnson announced on December 19 that Level 4 Covid restrictions would apply, and at least 24 guests were said to have attended.
