In 2008, Christopher Willson came across an unusual listing on Craigslist: a retired cruise ship for sale. The ship’s owner, for unknown reasons, chose this platform to detach from the 293-foot vessel.
Although Willson had no real desire to buy a cruise, the recurring appearance of the list piqued his curiosity. He decided to unleash the intrigue by assuming the role of interested buyer.

The trip to Northern California, where the ship was docked, altered Willson’s initial stance of disinterest in purchasing the cruise.
Originally engrossed in creating virtual reality tours, Willson’s perspective changed after witnessing the ship’s neglected state and its underlying beauty. The idea of restoring the ship gradually took hold in his mind as he recognized the ship’s potential.

How did your intentions for the cruise change?
Before personally witnessing the brilliance of the boat, Wilson admitted: “I posed as a potential buyer; Although I really had no interest in purchasing a boat, it was a little out of my comfort level, to say the least.”
However, he soon realized: “It has one of the most spectacular designs of any boat I have ever seen. The stairs are magnificent.”
He explained: “It’s almost the same as if you found an old Corvette from the ’60s in the garage. You can see the quality is there, but it’s so neglected that you almost feel bad about it.” After realizing the value of the boat, Wilson wasted no time and pooled his savings to purchase it.
