Mercedes-AMG, the performance division of the German automaker, has begun a dramatic makeover, moving away from the large-displacement engines that cemented its reputation for face-melting driving antics and toward downsized powertrains and hybridization. The turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 in the upcoming C63 AMG will be replaced by a 2.0-liter turbo hybrid inline-four. AMG will soon be moving away from gasoline engines entirely, however, and the Vision AMG concept unveiled today offers a glimpse of the company’s all-electric future, which Mercedes says will begin in 2025.
This Mercedes Vision AMG review will tell you about the best performances and its electric performance future.
AMG has a long wheelbase and attractive bodywork
The Vision AMG has a long wheelbase and an attractive body with smooth, aerodynamic surfaces. The rear and side windows have been painted the same Alubeam Silver color as the car’s body, enhancing the stylish appearance and limiting the windows’ ability to function as windows.
The general design is similar to the EQXX concept, and Mercedes claims there is an active rear wing, however none of the images show it being up. Mercedes has released virtually little about the Vision AMG’s powertrain, other than the fact that it’s electric and rides on the AMG chassis. EA, as well as the small, lightweight axial-flux motors seen on the EQXX, contain a high-output, high-voltage battery.
This Vision AMG appears to be polished stone
While the Vision AMG’s body appears to be polished stone, the graphic accents add plenty of style. The nose has a panel that resembles the iconic AMG Panamericana grille, with strips of LED lights that mimic the vertical strips of gasoline-powered cars. The main headlight units are connected by a slim light bar that is meant to resemble the Mercedes three-pointed star badge. The taillights, meanwhile, include three cylindrical tubes that resemble the glowing afterburners of a fighter jet and sit below an aggressive rear diffuser.
A faint star design at the back.
With silver paint, aqua accents and a dim star design across the rear half of the car, Mercedes tied the Vision AMG idea to its successful Formula 1 team. The concept’s 22-inch wheels also feature a similar closed aerodynamic design. to the wheel covers adopted for the 2022 Formula One season. Mercedes has not confirmed that the concept is a direct preview of a future AMG model, but many of the design cues are expected to remain when AMG goes electric. in 2025.
