The shocking moment a woman in a long coma gave birth in an Arizona nursing home was caught on video.
In the images you can see the stunned Hacienda HealthCare employees, looking traumatized as they checked the woman’s diaper and saw a baby’s head poking out.
The 29-year-old woman, in a vegetative state for decades, had been unknowingly raped by a nurse before the surprise birth in December 2018.
Nathan Sutherland, 37, was arrested for sexual assault and vulnerable adult abuse after a DNA sample he provided to authorities under a court order matched that of the baby, who survived.
The new body camera footage, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, also shows police in the room with the victim, but the video is highly pixelated and the mother and her newborn are not visible. , the news site Arizona’s Family reported.

“And when I looked, it was *inaudible*. The baby is coming,” a nurse tells an officer in the body camera video.
“When he opened the diaper, there was a head. And that poor assistant was out of work for a month. She was so distraught, so traumatized by the whole thing,” a former employee told Arizona’ Family.
The video also shows police trying to determine who had access to the room.

“All your medical records, primary care doctors, nurses, and visitor records tracked back about nine months,” a Phoenix police officer asks a staff member.
“Female care only,” a nurse told the officer. “Okay, so supposedly no man ever comes into his room?” the officer asked. “No,” said one staff member.
No one suspected Sutherland, the former nurse said, to the point that one of the parents of another patient at the center approached her and said, “I’m so glad you’re working tonight. “I know my son is always safe when you are here.”

The employee said she had a hard time reconciling the person she thought she knew with the reality of what Sutherland did.
She even considered approaching him in prison.
“I’ve thought many times about writing to Nate and seeing if he would respond,” she said.
The woman Sutherland raped and impregnated has been incapacitated since she nearly drowned when she was 3 years old.
Sunderland was sentenced in December 2021 to 10 years in prison, the Arizona Republic reported.
