Upadhye, was a lawyer at the Bombay High Court and also a well-known labor/industrial union leader, while his mother, Sadhana Upadhye, was a professor of Marathi literature and philosophy. Nitish did his schooling from Gokhle Education Society DGT High School and Robert Money School, Proctor Road, Mumbai, and graduated from Mumbai Veterinary College and Wilson College. Nitish has a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Sciences and Livestock Husbandry. He was an assistant veterinarian at the Mumbai Racecourse.

Career
Bharadwaj started his career with the film Trishagni with Nana Patekar in the year 1988. He starred in the Malayalam film Njan Gandharvan in 1991. He appeared in the 1992 film Sangeet with Madhuri Dixit. That same year, he appeared in the film Gruhpravesh (1992) with Nishigandha Wad. Nitish starred in a prominent role in several Marathi films such as Khatyal Sasu Nathal Soon (1987), Nasheebwan (1988), Anapekshit and Pasanta Ahe Mulgi (1989).
Nitish made his television debut with the hit series Mahabharat in 1988 and soon became a household name as Krishna. He received great recognition and popularity through the show. This performance led to him playing Lord Vishnu and the various incarnations of him in BR Chopra’s other mythological show, Vishnu Puran. Later he starred in the television series Man Mein Hai Vishwas, Ajab Gajab Ghar Jamai and Ramayan.
