Preeti Aghalayam Personal Life
Preeti Aghalayam has drawn everyone’s attention, making a name for herself in the halls of the still predominantly male IIT. She represents modern women in STEM in India and has set an example for other women in India. She turned 49 in 2023.
She was kind of a sick girl when she was little, which is why she started playing basketball regularly, and as a result, her immunity improved. Marathon running and gaming have been a part of her life ever since. But since the lockdown, the future director of IIT Madras has only run a few kilometres.
In 1995 she completed her BTech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Madras and was admitted to the University of Massachusetts Amherst to pursue her Ph.D. She completed her PhD in the year 2000. Aghalayam is a joyful woman who loves food and lives her life to the fullest. In addition to her academic superiority, she is a marathon runner and blogger. She explains that running is like a way to de-stress for her.
Aghalayam, addressing the media, said that his family played a pivotal role in building his career. She said that her grandfather was the founding member of a school of her time, her father was a chemistry teacher and her mother completed her PhD by sitting overtime late at night and getting up early. Growing up in a family environment like that encouraged her to work hard for her vision. She also expresses her gratitude to her husband, who is very supportive of her.
Preeti Aghalayam, speaking of her new responsibility, talked about preparing for her new assignment, the increase in female students on campus, and her efforts to improve the IIT institute.
Preeti Aghalayam’s Career
Aghalayam’s career begins shortly after earning his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She used to work as a postdoctoral researcher at MIT, Cambridge and as a professor at IIT Bombay. In 2010 she entered IIT Madras and currently holds a teaching position in the Department of Chemical Engineering. With the recent announcement, Aghalayam’s career reached new heights as she became the first lady to become the director of the IIT Institute.
