This will be the first time in the force’s history that the marching contingent will be made up entirely of women, they say, with northeastern states accounting for 80% of the participation this year.

According to the Delhi Police, the department has a policy of recruiting people from the eight northeastern states to “bridge the gap” between the police and the people of that region.

Shweta K Sugathan, an IPS officer, will lead the march of the force’s 194 police chiefs and constables, according to an official.

He stated that the participants practice daily on the Kartyava Path. According to the Special Commissioner of Police (Armed Police), Robin Hibu, all participants are “very excited” to participate in the parade for the first time.

“The marching contingent has been selected from the armed unit of our force, and most of them are from the northeastern states,” Hibu said, adding that they will represent the people of the northeast in the Delhi Police.

Hibu stated that the Delhi Police has added another feather to its cap this year as the women’s pipe band would be led by a female officer, Constable Ruyangunuo Kense.

He claimed that the ‘Delhi Police Song’ will be performed by a band of 135 police chiefs and constables. Last year, a female pipe band entered the procession, but it was led by an inspector, Rajendra Singh.

Another official said the all-female contingent “will definitely be a center of attraction” during the parade.
